Davidson College has selected Douglas Hicks as its 19th president.

The religion scholar and Davidson alum will assume that role on Aug. 1. He replaces Carol Quillen — Davidson’s first female president — who announced she would step down from that role last August after 11 years.

“Davidson changed my life,” Hicks said in a news release. “I’m excited to return as president and even more excited about the future that we will build at Davidson.”
